In the first part of my talk I elaborate on Femtosecond Fieldoscopy, a novel metrology for ambient air detection of the electric field of light with high detection sensitivity, dynamic range, petahertz detection bandwidth, and high spatial resolution. These criteria offer unprecedented prospects in label-free spectroscopy and microscopy. I present our recent results on highly sensitive detection of biologically relevant molecules in the gas and liquid phase, and our steps toward high-resolution spectro-microscopy. In the second part, I present briefly our current activities on the development of sustainable solar lasers.

Hanieh Fattahi studied Applied physics at Sharif University of Technology in Tehran and received her PhD in Physics at Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich in 2015. She was the recipient of the Minerva fast-track scholarship of the Max Planck Society in 2016 and was elected as a member of “Schiemann Kolleg” in 2017. She has been a visiting scientist in the Chemistry department of Harvard University and Oxford University.?

Since 2020, she has been leading her independent research group at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light in Erlangen.?
Her research group is tackling the most pressing challenges of our time:

1. Advancing label-free Sensing and Imaging Technologies: On a fundamental level, she is pushing the boundaries of label-free sensing and imaging to unlock new avenues for research in soft matter and solid-state physics.

2. Sustainable Solutions for Space Exploration: In the global race for space exploration, the group is advancing sustainable technologies to advance interplanetary communication, propulsion, and energy harvesting—paving the way for a sustainable future beyond Earth.
