Workshop: Understanding Microaggressions and Fostering Belonging in the University Context

This interactive workshop is designed to provide university staff with a deeper understanding of microaggressions and belonging in the academic workplace. Its aim is to raise awareness of cultural differences and to promote open, respectful, and effective collaboration across the university community.

Participants will explore subtle forms of microaggressions that can occur in everyday university life – for example in relation to language, names, cultural background, religion, or physical appearance. The workshop encourages participants to broaden their perspective and recognize underlying patterns, enabling them to transfer their insights to a wide range of professional situations.

Target group: approx. 10–15 staff members of Friedrich Schiller University Jena as well as partners from EC2U universities
Date: 29 May 2026, 9am -1pm
Language: English
Platform: Online via Zoom

The workshop is offered by the FECT?(Foster European Competences and Talents) programme and can be credited towards the certificate programme iKomPass – Intercultural Competence for Employees of the University of Jena.

  • Fostering a culture of belonging: Developing concrete strategies to promote an inclusive campus climate in which all members feel valued.

Intercultural Trainer

As an experienced behavioral and communication trainer and lecturer in Intercultural Business Psychology (University of Applied Sciences Hamm-Lippstadt), Claudia Ekwuazi supports individuals in sharpening their awareness of unconscious bias and social dynamics.

In her practice-oriented sessions, she views culture as a living process and provides concrete strategies for respectful, inclusive interaction in a globalized world. Her focus lies on the collective reflection of social patterns, using shifts in perspective to open new pathways for appreciative communication.
