Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are increasingly shaping education, research, the workplace, and societal decision-making processes. Accordingly, competencies in the reflective and responsible handling of data and AI are becoming more important. Students need to be prepared for these demands during their studies.

The supplementary study offerings of DALIJE support students from all disciplines in building and deepening their Data & AI Literacy. The data and AI competencies developed in this way extend beyond disciplinary boundaries and can be applied in various societal, professional, and research contexts. Depending on interest, prior knowledge, and available time resources, different formats are available, ranging from low-threshold entry with short tutorials to our certificate program (see offerings for students).

In addition to organizing supplementary study offerings, we aim to work with instructors to integrate topics and methods related to data handling and critical assessment of data and AI more strongly into curricula.

To this end, we collaborate with instructors in various formats.

Data & AI Literacy Invite

Through this offering, we support instructors by contributing to their courses. Depending on the course and instructors' wishes, we take over individual sessions or parts of them and cover topics agreed upon with the instructors from the field of Data & AI Literacy. This can be done entirely by our team or as co-teaching with faculty instructors.

Topics we've covered include, for example:

• Introduction to data and AI competencies for education, science, and the workplace
• Data management
• Transparency in science (FAIR Data, Open Science)
• Basics of Artificial Intelligence (Machine Learning, Generative AI)
• Electronic lab notebooks in practicums
• Basics of data protection

Development of Courses and Study Programs

We are happy to support individual lecturers and program coordinators at the faculties in implementing data and AI competencies in study offerings across various disciplines.

This includes, for example:

• Support in developing existing courses and implementing content from Data & AI Literacy
• Assistance to instructors in designing new courses focusing on integrating data and AI competencies
• Support in the further development and creation of study programs with a focus on strategic integration of data and AI competencies
• Development of strategies for closer integration of Data & AI Literacy Jena offerings in courses or program offerings of the departments

Professional Development and Resources for Instructors

We also provide materials on data and AI topics for instructors. These can be used for personal development or integrated into their own teaching.
