Philosophy is the love of wisdom. It is concerned with interpreting and understanding the world and human existence through problem-orientated reflection. The Bachelor's degree programme in Philosophy combines a sound basic education with an individual specialisation of your choice. The Institute of Philosophy is committed to the long and wide-ranging philosophical tradition as well as current research questions and debates. You will acquire up-to-date basic knowledge in the most important subject areas|fields of Philosophy (Theoretical Philosophy, Practical Philosophy, Logic and Argumentation, History of Philosophy, interdisciplinary topics of Philosophy such as Image Theory). The primary aim of the course is to develop the ability to criticise and make judgements, knowledge and mastery of various methodological approaches in theory formation, argumentation and problem solving as well as the ability to carry out self-employed individuals|freelancers.
Multi-subject bachelor¡¯s programme
Picture: Sophie BartholomeThe Bachelor's degree is the first professional qualification. The standard period of study|regular programme length is six semesters in total, during which various forms of courses (e.g. seminars, lectures or tutorials) are offered for the individual modules.
A multi-subject Bachelor's degree consists of a major subject with 120 credit points (abbreviation: LP / 1 LP = 30 hours of attendance, preparation and follow-up work|follow-up activity, learning and assessed coursework and examinations) and a supplementary subject with 60 LP.
At the Institute of Philosophy, which is located in the city centre in an idyllic garden, there is a personal working atmosphere with an excellent student-teacher ratio. We attach great importance to individual discussions for an intensive exchange of ideas between students and teaching staff.

Career opportunities:
The acquisition of disciplinary and transdisciplinary knowledge and skills, e.g. communication, writing, analysis and argumentation skills in the course of the Philosophy degree programme and participation in professional field-related modules serve the requirement profile of generalist activities in a wide range of professional fields outside the university.
A university entrance qualification, such as a general secondary school leaving certificate, is required for admission onto the study programme.
