A crowd of more than 80 people watched on 25 February the finale of the "Three Minute Thesis" competition in the Rosens?le. In this competition, doctoral candidates present their thesis in just three minutes on a single slide.

In the end, doctoral researcher Abha Valavalkar from the Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology won. She received both the jury and the audience award for her presentation “Rises fast but does it last?”. In it, she uses the metaphor of a nightclub to explain how she measures the behaviour of molecules in an excited (dancing) and relaxed (sitting at the bar) state. The jury prize is endowed with 100 euros. Runner-up were Alisa Puhach and Merle Hammer from the Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology – Hans Kn?ll Institute.

3MT? is an internationally renowned competition that is conducted at numerous universities throughout the world. It was invented in 2008 by the University of Queensland, Australia, and the Coimbra Group has established this competition in Europe. As a member of this renowned university network, the University of Jena takes part in this competition. The winner from Jena will take part in the Europe-wide preliminary competition with her presentation. The three best participants can present their paper at this year's Three-Minute-Thesis Final in Granada and win up to 3000 euros.
