The Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space (BMFTR), state ministries of science, and alliance organizations have agreed on key points for strengthening research safety and establishing a national platform for research safety.

In order to preserve the openness of the scientific system and better protect research activities, collaborations, and infrastructures against risks, this platform aims to systematically strengthen research and knowledge security in Germany and Europe. This requires a holistic, nationwide approach based on the principle that joint responsibility for an integrity-based and secure science system is exercised at all levels and by all stakeholders within the scope of their respective responsibilities and applicable legal norms.

The BMFTR initiated a stakeholder process on this issue in October 2024. As part of this process, stakeholders from academia, economy, the federal government, and the states discussed various aspects of research security. This process was successfully concluded with an agreement on key points for strengthening research security and establishing a national platform for research security.
