Information Security and Data Protection Office (SID)

The Office supports the University of Jena and its affiliates in the secure and responsible handling of sensitive data and in complying with legal|according to law|statutory requirements.

The protection of information and personal data is an essential basis for the responsible fulfilment of tasks in research, teaching and administration at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena. The Information Security and Data Protection Office supports the university's facilities|institution|(structural) units and members in reliably implementing legal, regulatory and internal university requirements.

We provide advice and support in the design of secure and data protection-compliant processes, develop guidelines and measures and promote a high level of awareness of information security and data protection in everyday university life through training courses and sensitisation.

Our aim is to anchor information security and data protection as an integral part of all work and research processes in the long term - in a practical, transparent manner and in line with the university's objectives.

    Our aim is to manage and coordinate the IT security process at the University of Jena.

    Our focus:

    • Managing and coordinating the security process,
    • Support the university management in the creation of the security guideline,
    • Coordinate the creation of the security concept and associated sub-concepts and guidelines,
    • reporting to body|committees on the status of information security,
    • coordinate security-related projects,
    • maintain the IT emergency manual,
    • investigate security-related incidents together with other subject areas|field,
    • initiate and coordinate awareness-raising and training course|training sessions on information security

    Data protection serves to protect personal data. Their processing at the University of Jena is carried out in accordance with legal|according to law|statutory provisions so that the privacy of the data subjects is protected.

    The Data Protection Officer of the University of Jena is active in the following (subject) areas|field:

    • Advising university members on all aspects of data protection and data security
    • Monitoring the implementation of legal|according to law|statutory requirements (e.g. register of processing activities, deletion concept)
    • Participation in relevant body|committees and research groups|study group|task forces
    • Creation of sample templates for data protection-relevant processes (e.g. declarations of consent, website review, order processing contracts, etc.)
    • Maintenance of the privacy policy
    • Support in the creation of guidelines, handouts and recommendations
    • Support in the development and implementation of training course|training sessions
    • Advisory service(s)|consultations on data protection incidents and reporting in accordance with Art. 33 of the General Data Protection Regulation
    • Support with data protection impact assessments in accordance with Art. 35 of the General Data Protection Regulation
    • Cooperation with the supervisory authorities
