The promotion of equality and diversity are implemented at Friedrich Schiller University Jena as cross-cutting tasks, with numerous study and personnel-related areas involved in their planning and implementation under the leadership of the responsible Vice-President.
In 2011, the expertise of the managers responsible for the various university fields of action at central and decentralised level and of the equality-related interest groups was brought together in a Strategic Steering Group for Equality set up by the Senate and headed by the responsible Vice-President. In 2019, a similar Strategic Steering Group for Diversity was implemented based on this model. In order to identify and expertly address intersectional issues in the promotion of equal opportunities, the two groups initially met regularly and were eventually merged. The task of the Steering Group on Equality and Diversity is to jointly advise the university management on strategy and action planning for the promotion of equal opportunities in studies, teaching, research and work, and to support them in its implementation.?
